The sincere faith of the devotee invokes the Lord’s grace to cure all ailments be it physical, mental, emotional and psychological. Let us look at how, Muruga Peruman intervened in some of his devotee’s lives to heal, protect and ultimately liberate them.

Lord Muruga and  Saint Arunagirinathar

Saint Arunagirinathar was born during the 15th century in Thiruvannamalai and spent most of his life there. According to the records, Arunagirinathar was attracted towards lust and spent his youth in pursuing an immoral life. It was said that since he was enjoying his life in dissipation, he began to suffer from leprosy. People started hating him and even avoided him. He decided to end his life, went to the Thiruvannamalai temple and hit his head against the pillars begging for forgiveness. He considered jumping to his death from the temple tower but according to the puranas, Muruga Peruman appeared before him and prevented him from committing suicide. He cured His leprosy and blessed him to create devotional songs for the benefit of mankind. Arunagirinathar rendered his first song 'Mutthai tharu' after the miraculous rescue from suicide, at Thiruvannamalai.
